Circular Action Alliance (CAA), a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) dedicated to implementing effective Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for paper and packaging in the United States, has added Danone North America and Mondelēz International as Founding Members of the organization. Danone and Mondelēz join 18 other companies that have assumed a leadership role in CAA to support all producers in meeting their EPR obligations and further a circular economy.
“CAA is pleased to build on its expertise as it welcomes representatives from Danone and Mondelēz to its Board of Directors,” said Charlie Schwarze, CAA Board Chair and Senior Director of Sustainability at Keurig Dr Pepper. “CAA’s leadership collectively represents hundreds of brands utilizing a wide diversity of packaging materials covered under U.S. EPR laws. This experience will help inform our program plans, support producers, and advance our vision of building a circular economy.”
In 2023, CAA became the first PRO approved to administer an EPR program for paper and packaging in the U.S. after being appointed by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. Subsequently, the Maryland Department of the Environment appointed CAA to be the single PRO to represent producers and serve on the State Producer Responsibility Advisory Council. In early 2024, CalRecycle selected CAA to be the single PRO to implement California’s EPR law.
Danone and Mondelēz join CAA’s existing Founding Members: Amazon; The Coca-Cola Company; Colgate-Palmolive; The Clorox Company; Ferrero; General Mills; Keurig Dr Pepper; The Kraft Heinz Company; L’Oréal; Mars, Incorporated; Nestlé USA; Niagara Bottling, LLC; PepsiCo; Procter & Gamble; SC Johnson; Target; Unilever United States; and Walmart.
